Kenya and Rhodesia are two colonies on the African continent in which European settlers exploited the indigenous people with considerable intensity if not viciousness. In these two British colonies, land, labour and taxes came to be used as the major instrument for exploitation as was the case elsewhere in colonial Africa. Kenya and Rhodesia are suitable for a comparative study for a variety of reasons. Both were occupied by settlers- the bulk of whom came from South Africa, bringing with them fixed notions about land and the equality or inequality of races.
